Dallas Love Field (KDAL/DAL) is a city-owned airport located northwest of Dallas. Love Field was the primary airport for Dallas until 1974, when Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport opened. Love Field is now the secondary airport of Dallas behind Dallas-Forth Worth International Airport and serves as a major focus city for Southwest Airlines.
Southwest was founded and headquartered at Love Field in 1971. Over the years, Southwest has remained loyal to Love Field and is now the primary gate holder at the airport. The Wall Street trading code for Southwest pays homage to Love Field (LUV).
Love Field served just over 8 million passengers in 2009.
Love Field is radar controlled by Regional TRACON and Fort Worth ARTCC. | |
