Web Developer
Southwest Virtual Airlines is seeking a talented and passionate Web Developer to design, build, and maintain our dynamic and engaging website. The ideal candidate will work closely with our team to enhance user experience, integrate operational systems, and support the airline's mission of delivering exceptional services to our virtual pilots. This role is crucial in ensuring the website remains functional, user-friendly, and up to date with the latest technological standards.
Location: Remote
Reports to: Director of Technology
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Website Development & Maintenance: Design, develop, and maintain SVA’s website, ensuring optimal performance, security, and scalability.
- User Interface & Experience (UI/UX): Collaborate with Pilots to enhance the user experience by creating intuitive and visually appealing interfaces.
- Content Management: Assist in publishing and managing content, including pilot resources, news, and updates.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Identify and resolve technical issues promptly to ensure minimal downtime and disruption.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other departments (e.g., Training, Operations) to understand and implement their web-based needs.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest web technologies and propose improvements to enhance website functionality and performance.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Proficiency with Linux as well as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
- Experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., Apache, Nginx).
- Understanding of web hosting environments and cloud platforms (e.g. Ionos, Azure).
- Familiarity with backend technologies and frameworks
- Knowledge of database management systems (e.g., MySQL)
REQUIREMENTS:
- Members are required to remain active by accomplishing one (1) flight every 60 days.
- Members may NOT be in a staff role with another virtual airline.
- Members must be at least 17 years of age.
- Staff members must have achieved at a minimum the rank of First Officer within the VA.
- Must be in good standing with the airline.

Director of Technology
Southwest Virtual Airlines is seeking an innovative and strategic Director of Technology to oversee all technological aspects of the organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of SVA’s technology strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. This includes managing the website, operational systems, and software integrations while ensuring a seamless and engaging experience for our virtual pilots.
Location: Remote
Reports to: Chief Communications Officer
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement SVA’s overall technology strategy in alignment with the organization’s mission and vision.
- Lead the technology team, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance evaluations.
- Identify and implement new technologies to enhance the virtual pilot experience and improve operational efficiency.
- Establish and enforce cybersecurity policies to protect sensitive user data.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and best practices.
- Work closely with other directors to align technology initiatives with organizational goals.
- Develop and manage the technology department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions.
- Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 1+ years of experience in technology leadership roles, with a strong background in web development and system integration.
- Experience in the virtual airline or flight simulation community is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to lead and develop a high-performing team.
- Excellent problem solving and decision making abilities.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

The CBM is responsible for managing the pilots assigned to their specific crew base. The CBM will be the front-line supervisor to all pilots within the VA. They are responsible for the daily management of PIREPS both MANUAL and those submitted through LUVCARS as well as ensuring their members are complying with the requirements set forth in this document.
Reports to: Chief Crew Base Manager (CCBM)
REQUIREMENTS:
Staff members are required to complete two (2) flights every 60 days to remain active.
Staff members may NOT be in a staff role with another virtual airline.
Staff members must be at least 17 years of age.
Staff members are required to be able to attend a monthly/quarterly staff meeting, held within the first week of each month/quarter.
Staff members must have achieved at a minimum the rank of Captain within the VA.
Must be in good standing with the airline.
Must be an active and sociable member on our Discord server prior to and upon placement onto the staff team roster.
All staff new hires are subject to a probation period of one (1) month for performance evaluation and reconsideration of position hired if necessary.
Staff members must be actively working to obtain the instructor role within the VA. Members must have instructor role within 30 days of their probationary period.
